Tropical Inspiration
Location: Isleworth Golf and Country
Club, Windermere
Builder: Pellegrini Homes, Inc.
“I’d like to think that the warming trend
in the weather offers us a chance to return to the wonderful
designs of the early ‘40, ‘50s, and ‘60s
in the South where homes were designed to accept the
weather conditions as part of life,” says Carolyn
Franklin. Conjure up images of swaying palms, soft music,
fruit trees, balmy breezes, and of course water. Interior
design can create the illusion of the tropics through
surface decorations such as wooden, beamed ceilings,
reed-bladed paddle fans, sheer curtains that are most
beautiful when wafting in the breeze, and sisal rugs
that can handle excess sand. Hot, intense colors set
a tropics theme, as do pots of palms and indigenous
plants and flowers."
