A European Signature Home
Color is a powerful element; blue being the favorite color of this energetic family, it is introduced in every room, flowing between the powerful statements made from their introduction into custom rugs to paintings, with accents of old world ochre.
The foyer wordlessly sets the ambiance of the home. A charcoal iron staircase punctuates the space, anchored by limestone floors and columns and flavored with a European bust and a significant French tapestry.
Pieces of the past are brought into the present day spaces. Hand carved panels adorn valance over the kitchen refrigerator. The owner's penchant for roosters and hens is reflected in subtle touches, the most important being the hand-painted tile mural over the cooktop. The designer and owner collected fine Majolica during the time the home was being built and displayed these in the kitchen, definitely the heart of this home. Trompe l'oeil adds appeal to the domed ceiling of the breakfast room.
Liberally scaled, plump sofas and furniture were needed for the home's grand dimensions. Beams that punctuate the soaring spaces draw the eye. The element addressed judiciously throughout was in the design of oft neglected but most important sixth wall...the ceilings, a mandate by the owner and fulfilled by the designs presented.
